Dog Licensing Information for Mecosta County











  • It is a law in the State of Michigan that if you have a dog, you MUST get that dog licensed.
  • Licensing dogs makes it easier for owners to be reunited with their stray or hurt dog.
  • A license shows that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies, which helps in protecting the community.
  • Dog licenses need to be purchased every year or every 3 years. Late fees will apply 30 days after license expiration.
  • To be able to purchase a license, you must have proof of rabies vaccination and to receive the unsexed fee, you must have proof of neuterization.
  • Dog licenses can be purchased from the Mecosta County Treasurer's Office.
  • Your local township hall or city hall will have licenses available December 1st thru the last day of February each year (except Big Rapids and Colfax Townships).
  • ** Starting in 2009, licenses will be available at all in-county veterinarian offices. **
  • Citations can and will be issued if you fail to purchase a license for your dog.

Fees for Purchasing Dog Licenses
One Year
- Unsexed - $4.00
- Sexed - $8.00

Three Year
- Unsexed - $10.00
- Sexed - $20.00

A $5.00 late fee will be applied if license is not renewed within 30 days of expiration.
