CHIPPEWA HILLS SCHOOL DISTRICT SPECIAL ELECTION

 OPERATING MILLAGE RENEWAL PROPOSAL

This proposal will allow the school district to continue to levy the statutory rate of 18 mills on all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, required for the school district to receive its revenue per pupil foundation allowance.

Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property, except principal residence and other property exempted by law, in Chippewa Hills School District, Mecosta, Isabella and Osceola Counties, Michigan, be increased by 18.6648 mills ($18.6648 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) for a period of 2 years, 2010 to 2011, inclusive to provide funds for operating purposes; the estimate of the revenue the school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2010 is approximately $5,970,659 (this is a renewal of millage which will expire with the 2009 tax levy)?

BIG RAPIDS CHARTER TOWNSHIP SPECIAL ELECTION

 BIG RAPIDS CHARTER TOWNSHIP RECALL

Statement of Reason:

Under the guise of “reducing the work load of the Township Supervisor” and increasing the efficiency of “Township Operations”, concurred on a resolution authorizing the hiring of a “Township Superintendent”.  This action would allow the Township Board to strip the Township Supervisor of her authority and statutory duties and place such authority and statutory duties with a non-elected bureaucrat who does not answer to the Township voters for his/her actions.

Justification of Conduct:

I ran for the trustee position because I have always been interested in township government, especially with the well being of the residents, including jobs, issues with road maintenance and the general township operation.  In the process of doing my job as trustee I am in the middle of a recall election.

Do you want this township to be run by only one person?

Do you want only “yes men” people on your board that will agree with anything the supervisor wants?

Because of this recall, would you feel comfortable voicing your opinion at a township meeting?

Shall David Hamelund be recalled from the office of Big Rapids Charter Township Trustee?

YES - 288

NO - 625

BIG RAPIDS CHARTER TOWNSHIP RECALL

Statement of Reason:

Under the guise of “reducing the work load of the Township Supervisor” and increasing the efficiency of “Township Operations”, proposed on a resolution authorizing the hiring of a “Township Superintendent”.  This action would allow the Township Board to strip the Township Supervisor of her authority and statutory duties and place such authority and statutory duties with a non-elected bureaucrat who does not answer to the Township voters for his/her actions.

Justification of Conduct:

I ran for the trustee position with the hope of establishing better communications and effective relationship with other local units of government.  I firmly believe we are now making progress in these areas.

Do you want the township supervisor to continue to not inform the board – your governing body – of proposals, issues & etc., but handle them herself, when board approval is required for such action?

Do you want continued bad negotiating by your township supervisor with other governing bodies?

Do you approve of the supervisor spending $5400 dollars for an assessor from across the state, to do commercial assessing she is already being paid for?  Do you also approve her making purchases over $500.00 without getting board approval, which is required?

Do you really want your board member who has your best interest at heart, recalled for making a motion to discuss an issue?

Shall Wayne O’Neil be recalled from the office of Big Rapids Charter Township Trustee?

YES - 342

NO - 574

BIG RAPIDS CHARTER TOWNSHIP RECALL

Statement of Reason:

Under the guise of “reducing the work load of the Township Supervisor” and increasing the efficiency of “Township Operations”, concurred on a resolution authorizing the hiring of a “Township Superintendent”.  This action would allow the Township Board to strip the Township Supervisor of her authority and statutory duties and place such authority and statutory duties with a non-elected bureaucrat who does not answer to the Township voters for his/her actions.

Justification of Conduct:

My intention was to have a more efficient and effective board.  Instead I’m in the middle of a recall.

Do you want your tax dollars paying for non-township political partisan phone calls, which is strictly in violation of state laws?

Do you think it’s okay to use township vehicles and personnel for political partisan activities which is also against state law?

Should we pay an extra assessor to do a job that a board member is already well paid to do?

Shall Roger Winegar be recalled from the office of Big Rapids Charter Township Treasurer?

YES - 295

NO - 618
